Lighthouse Darłowo

Attraction description

The Darłówek Lighthouse is one of the most characteristic tourist attractions of the Polish Baltic coast, located exactly at the mouth of the Wieprza River to the sea. Built in 1885, it replaced an earlier structure from 1715, continuing the important navigational tradition of this region. This historic structure, 22 meters high, is not only a functional navigation point, but also a valuable tourist attraction of Western Pomerania.

The M Lighthouse is distinguished by its characteristic white and red painting and unique light, which flashes a red signal every 15 seconds and is visible from a distance of up to 15 nautical miles. Unlike many other lighthouses on the Polish coast, the Darłowo lighthouse is located directly on the beach, which provides easy access and a unique perspective.

Visiting the lighthouse involves climbing 102 steps that lead to the viewing platform. From the viewing terrace there is a panorama covering the Baltic Sea, the sandy beaches of Darłówek, the picturesque mouth of the Wieprza and the surrounding areas. The lighthouse is open to visitors daily during the summer season and on weekends during the off-season, making it an accessible attraction for most of the year.

Inside the Darłówko Lighthouse there is a museum exhibition dedicated to the history of lighthouse keeping, local fishing and the maritime heritage of the Darłowo region. Visitors can learn about the history of the lighthouse, the work of the lighthouse keepers and the role the facility played in ensuring the safety of navigation over the past centuries.

The Darłówko Lighthouse is an ideal starting point for a day trip from nearby resorts such as Dąbki, Darłowo or Jarosławiec. Its location on the main promenade of Darłowo means that you can combine a visit to the lighthouse with a walk along the pier, relaxing on the beach or visiting the nearby restaurants serving fresh fish. The facility is also a popular photographic motif, especially during sunset, when the sun's rays give its facade a unique glow.

For history and architecture enthusiasts, it is a valuable example of maritime technical architecture from the late 19th century. It is part of the Polish coast lighthouse trail, which also includes other historic lighthouses, such as Jarosławiec, Gąski and Ustka. Visiting this historic site will certainly enrich your stay in Western Pomerania and provide unforgettable experiences and knowledge about the maritime heritage of the Polish Baltic coast.
